Ilse crawford

Netflix has this wonderful original series called Abstract. It follows the life and work of some extraordinary creatives and designers. I was very moved by the one highlighting Ilse Crawford and her interior design work/philosophy. I've since watched and listened to every interview I have been able to find on her.

This one about water glasses is completely enthralling. (I am not joking).

What I find most inspiring about her is not her aesthetics, or successful career (both of which are deeply inspired). It is her singular mission to "put the human user at the centre of the experience" and how that infuses everything she does, whether designing the Soho House's interiors or collaborating with Ikea on a collection, or hosting a dinner party. Her integrity is palpable.

This clarity that Ilisa radiates is something that is in all of us. Its particular iteration is unique to who we are and what we are meant to do; our interior manifesto. But how many of us have really taken the time to get clear on what that is?

Our truth wants to be known and expressed through how we live our lives.

And what is so amazing is that this isn't a difficult puzzle to solve. It's not a great mystery. It's our truth and truth is always simple. We need to just sit and listen.

Inspired by this insight I sat with the intention to clarify, what is my singular mission? What is the why behind everything I wish to contribute? A lot came up for me, but to put simply and briefly, I believe in our ability to create a life of purpose, beauty and fulfillment by tapping into our own personal power. and I want to help as many people as possible be in touch with what that is within them. Whether through my art or at New Moon gatherings, or even in a conversation at the playground. In subtle ways this has been a thread guiding me all along. But now I have articulated a clarity for myself that can lead my actions instead of a vague inclination that meanders.

We all could benefit from taking some time, looking around and thinking, what is it that I stand for? What do I want to create? How do I want to make people feel? What matters to me?  We only have this one life, as far as we know, and through our actions we have the ability to be of service in profound ways. Having clarity allows you to make more of a mark, more of an impact and it keeps you along a path that you know will bring fulfillment and joy instead of being pulled in many different directions.

I encourage you to take some time this weekend asking these questions and listening as your inner wisdom fills you in on what you might have been missing. I would love to hear your insights!

Sending love and creative magic your way!
